I’m Alex, one of Total Mortgages’ mortgage advisers.

I hold a business management degree from Waikato University, with a background in accounting and marketing, having previously worked at one of the country’s most prominent accounting firms before moving into mortgage advice.

Numbers and business have always come naturally to me, but the real education came from the people who mentored me early in my accountancy career. They gave me solid business acumen, but more importantly they taught me how much dealing with people professionally and empathetically actually matters in this line of work. That approach has been recognised too — I was named a Top NZ Adviser for both 2025 and 2026.

Business is in my blood. I grew up watching my father call real estate auctions on-site and build his own thriving real estate business alongside my grandfather, so property was always part of the picture. Add my love of numbers and my natural drive to connect with people, and mortgage advice turned out to be the perfect fit.

No two days look the same in this job, and that’s exactly why I love it. The mortgage world shifts constantly — rates, policy, lending criteria — and staying on top of it while adapting on the fly keeps things interesting. What I enjoy most, though, is the people side. A self-employed client, a first home buyer, and an investor can all walk in the same day, and no two of them need the same approach. Figuring out what actually works for each person, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all answer, is the part of the job I genuinely look forward to every day.

Outside the office, you’ll find me spending time with friends and family, running Hamilton’s river paths, escaping to Mount Maunganui, or hanging out with my amazing husband and our little dogs Bodie and Zeke.
